At the painting cave we offer classes to students from age 6 years (Grade 1) to age 100. Since we are a teaching studio, beginners of all ages are welcome. Please scroll down to see the classes that we offer.
Adult Art Classes
In our Adult Art classes, we focus on learning how to draw and paint in many mediums in the way that the old Masters showed us. We understand that drawing is the foundation to Art, so we work through all the elements of art and the principles of design in drawing. To keep it interesting, we tackle numerous other mediums during the learning process, applying our newly learned skills as we go along.
Students at The Painting Cave understand that learning to make REAL art, requires practice. Lots of it! EVERY day. Our students are usually Artists who once were Hobbyists. People of all ages, from all walks of life who have decided that it is time to perfect their skill and leave a legacy or make Art that has the ability to sell.
You will be encouraged to paint subjects of your choice and taught according to your level of experience in drawing or painting.
• The class fees are R1 100 per person per month payable in advance.
• This entitles you to 4 or 5 weekly scheduled sessions per month. (this is when you have my undivided attention to provide a teaching class)
• You are entitled to as many unscheduled sessions per month as you like (this is when you come to socialise with other artists or just to paint or draw and you get to use all our facilities – easels, tables, light tables, sanders, hairdryers etc)
• Each teaching session is 2 hours long.
• You may attend the studio at any time when we are open. There are a number of months in a year where there are 5 weeks. These additional classes in these months will make up for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year when the studio will be closed
• Alternatively you may book an individual session (2 hours) at R400 per session should you require a single or succession of classes to complete a specific project with my guidance. This will however not entitle you to the use of the studio in unscheduled sessions.
• Payment is required on enrollment. If these are the type of classes that you have been looking for, please email me for a registration form and a list of available seats and times.
Too often children and parents mistake Craft for Art. Since our focus is on Fine Art, children get to work with all kinds of different Fine Art mediums. Graphite, charcoal, pastels, paint, printing etc. Our focus is on instilling pride and purpose in the work that we do. Learning the correct way to apply mediums, how to COMPLETE a project, how to take care of mediums, and dexterity.
Students will not only learn the basics and finer detail of drawing and painting, but will also be introduced to the works of some of the world’s most famous artists. They will also learn about colour, value-pattern and composition. All materials used are non-toxic.
